In the Landscape

In the Landscape

I’m often drawn to a landscape and feel compelled to create a sculptural intervention in response. Usually this means seeking to accentuate a feature I find appealing about the site, or to fill in an area or aspect which might seem lacking in some way and in need of a new element to enrich or enliven it. In other cases a work begins when an image of a piece pops into my imagination, and then I look for a suitable location to develop the idea into an artwork. The artwork takes shape in a kind of dialogue or dance between abstract concept and physical environment, and around what each wants to express about itself.
